Exhibition “Babin kuk – Planning of the Utopia: 50 Years Since the Construction of the Hotel and Tourism Complex”

On 30 October 2025, we opened our final exhibition in the museum gallery – “Babin kuk – Planning of the Utopia: 50 Years Since the Construction of the Hotel and Tourism Complex” by authors Ivan Lujo and Krunoslav Šmit, with the exhibition design by Kristina Mirošević.

We would like to thank everyone for joining us and for a wonderful evening. You can view impressions from the opening event in our gallery.

The exhibition will remain open until 25 November. After that, we will close the gallery and temporarily close the museum. The new lease brings changes to the space, and the museum will undergo a comprehensive reconstruction. Still, we continue forward as the only museum in Croatia listed in the National Museum Register that strives to present the socialist period of the Republic of Croatia in a coherent and contextualised way.

The many donations we receive—mostly from the people of Dubrovnik, but also from across Croatia and beyond—are both an encouragement and a responsibility. Despite the challenges, they motivate us to preserve the memory of this important chapter of our history, because history truly should be our teacher. As a society, we should learn equally from past mistakes and from all the positive achievements and individuals who, even in that period, strived for excellence, and for a better, fairer, and more solidary society.

This is why the existence of this museum matters. Equally important is the work of various initiatives, associations, institutions, and individuals who share this mission with us.

We plan to open the new permanent display in the spring. Until then, we invite everyone who has not yet done so to visit the exhibition on Babin kuk, as well as our permanent display.
